Autumn Grand Prix - 10-10-2011

CURRAN PUTS A PEPP IN HIS STEP AT EGLINTON

Frank Curran claimed his second major Grand Prix of his career on Sunday when steering Pepp to victory at the Northern Indoor Championships at Eglinton.

Hosting the third leg of the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix League, the Eglinton Equestrian Club attracted 27 starters in their self sponsored Grand Prix with 5,000 on offer.

Owned by John Curran, Pepp was part of a large portion of the Starting order that made it through to the jump off with a total of 16 making it through. Curran also had a second mount in New World to compete for the top prize on the day. However, out of the 6 combinations that recorded a double clear, Curran steered Pepp to a time of 29.18 to take the red rosette. He was also third with New World in 30.76.

Former World Champion Dermott Lennon slotted his top mount Hallmark Elite in second and adds to the points he gained in last week's leg at Kernans to move into a tie for second place alongside Gabriel Slattery and Eddie Moloney.

Peter Smyth moved further clear at the top of the table and is now 6 points clear following his fourth place finish on Sunday with Mary Barron's Willem. The pair stopped the clock in 30.88 while Daniel Coyle fell just short of his time with Special Leap in 31.46. Winner of the opening leg of the League, Gabriel Slattery took the final points on offer with Captains Magic Touch in sixth.

The next leg of the league takes place next Sunday at Kildare International on October 16th.
