Dessie Hughes in August - 2nd September 2013

Congratulations to Dessie Hughes on another successful win with Golden Wonder in the Perfect Pint Beginners Superchase in Galway, winning by 3 1/2 lengths with R Loughran in torrential rain. Dessie said after, "He won on good at Bellewstown and I thought he'd struggle out there today. It's good to see him do that though as he's going to need to handle that ground through the winter."

Dessie has also had successes throughout August with Flanagans Field, ridden to first place by R Loughran in Kilbeggan on his first attempt at hurdles in the Betpack Maiden Hurdle, winning by 9 lengths. Dessie said of the win afterwards “He ran respectable in bumpers but hurdling would seem to be his game.” Also in Kilbeggan, Lady of Glencoe was 3rd and New River 4th in the Michael Car Sales (Mares) Novice Hurdle. Back Before Dawn was a neck back in 3rd in the Tom Birmingham Menswear INH Flat Race with M P Fogarty.

In the Tramore Fruity Stakes Handicap cap 4yo plus, Chill was 3rd with C P Hoban, two and a quarter lengths back. Captain Arceus 2nd, was three-quarters of a length behind with B J Geraghty in Bellewstown Bookmakers Mullacurry Cup Handicap Hurdle 4yo plus. Mr Duffy was 2nd in the totepool Handicap chase class 5 for 4yo plus in Cartmel with P J Brennan. Guitar Pete came 3rd, one and a quarter lengths behind with N G McCullagh in Ballinrobe, David Heneghan Memorial Handicap 3yo plus. Also in Ballinrobe, Dale Street was 2nd with M Darcy in the Ballinrobe On Course Vets Beginners Steeplechase 4yo plus. Indian Icon was 3rd under C R King in Killarney in the Colin Counihan Tarmac Handicap 3yo plus.
