Punchestown wins for Hughes - 18th October 2013
Congratulations to Kildare trainer Dessie Hughes at Punchestown this week gaining three wins. Captain Arceus won the 4yo Follow Us On Twitter And Facebook Hurdle winning by half a length. Jockey Bryan Cooper stated afterwards, “They went a good pace and his jumping kept him in it. He quickened up, but really he's crying out for two and a half miles...Chasing will be his game but we felt this was too nice a prize to miss out on. He'll go chasing now." In the first race of the second day, Somethingwonderful won the 5yo Buy Your 2014 Annual Badge Maiden Hurdle under Davy Russell, taking the lead before the last and winning by one and three-quarter lengths. Dessie who attended Punchestown on this day and seeing his first win after his recent surgery and recovery said, “He (Somethingwonderful) is going to be a nice horse and he'll probably get further...He jumps well and his job will be chasing. I don't know whether he'd be quick enough to compete in the good novices; he's a stayer and has a good cruising speed.” Dessie had a third win and a double in the same day with Art of Logistics, again under Bryan Cooper in the Buck House Novice Steeplechase (Grade 3) 4yo plus, with an “unbeaten record over fences”, running clear for five and a half lengths to win the race. Dessie said afterwards, “It was a good performance and he's a nice novice to have. It's very seldom we would have any two mile horses and I think he's a two-miler...He'll stick to two miles for the moment and there are some nice novice races for him. He has enough pace for it, especially when the ground turns soft.”
