Congratulations to trainer Dessie Hughes on last weekend’s racing with Art Of Payroll owned by Bishopsgate Syndicate and under Bryan Cooper was in the first race of the day at Cork in the Corkracecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle for 4yo. Coming up to the last he was in third but after the last jump he raced on to beat the favourite by a head. Jockey Bryan said afterwards, “He jumped great and he has a bright future.” This was only Art Of Payroll’s second race this year and was Bryan’s fifth winner in the space of five days.
Golden Wonder was 2nd in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Steeplechase for 4yo plus also in Cork, narrowly missing out by a neck.
Favourite Our Conor who hasn’t been out since the 15th March this year in Cheltenham, was 4th in the Woodlands 100 Club October Handicap of 3yo plus, making his “seasonal reappearance” in Naas under Danny Mullins and owned by Barry Connell. He raced in the rear before progressing and moved up to fourth place, keeping on the same pace until the finish. Dessie said afterwards, “I’m delighted. He travelled well and he ran well. The others have been running all year whereas that’s his first run. He’d be 90 per cent fit. It just made so much difference to him when he saw a hurdle, coming from the flat.” Jockey Danny also said, “I’m very happy with that. He was a little bit fresh in places and got a little bit tired...You don’t want a Champion Hurdle horse ready now. He should improve and be alright for the season ahead. Everything went to plan.”
